The Sunday Sanctuary with Iwona Ordon
A weekly series that profiles the most fabulous, hard-working, 24/7 hustlers, and how they spend their Sundays.
When we first announced our pregnancy, one of the first beautiful gifts we received was this Kimono baby bodysuit from TØY, and I was instantly in love. The softest material and so my style. I knew I had to get in touch with the owner and company immediately and have since ordered several for my friends.
Iwona Ordon founded the minimalist baby clothing brand TØY after moving to San Francisco, California, with the mission of creating the softest, most comfortable and functional baby clothes, but without sacrificing our planet. All of the products she designs are based on her extensive research of babies’ and parents’ needs and desires, and combining it with her love of the simplistic Nordic design. Iwona’s goal is to help transform the baby fashion industry to become more sustainable.
Since launching her company, Iwona and TØY have been featured in Forbes, The Bump, Red Tricycle, Mother.ly and more.
Here’s how Iwona spends her Sundays-
Q: What time do you wake up or does the alarm go off ?
A: On Sunday’s I try to keep my morning plans to bare minimum, so I can let my body dictate when it wants to wake up. That still means sleeping until 8 or 9 am at best.
Q: What is your morning routine (specifically the first 15)?
A: Unless something or someone unexpectedly wakes me up, all I want to do is snooze a little longer, I try to do a quick meditation while still laying in bed. I always feel calmer, yet more awake later. Once out of bed, I drink some water for hydration and head out for a quick walk with my husband and our two French Bulldogs. Because I always wake up hungry, we normally move straight to making breakfast right after getting back from the morning walk.
Q: What is your Sunday mantra?
A: “Today is the best day ever”
Q: What’s your go to breakfast/brunch?
A: I’m really boring Monday to Friday and mainly eat my protein oats for breakfast, so on Saturdays and Sundays, we try to make something different, which usually involves bread or baguettes. My three latest favorites are avocado toast on proper sourdough bread, french baguette with pesto, tomatoes and basil, and challah bread with honey!
Q: Do you give yourself any Sunday self-care treatments?
A: My Sunday self-care involves long walks and extra quality time with my little family.
Q: What song is a good representation of your Sunday?
A: “Don’t worry be happy” is what I’m always aiming for :)
Q: How has your Sunday routine changed over the years?
A: Ever since COVID-19 started, my routine has changed drastically, but looking beyond that, my Sundays are definitely much more relaxed and less social now vs. a few years back.
Q: Do you exercise?
A: I exercise at the gym during the week and when the weather is good on Saturdays or Sundays, I like to work out outdoors. Paddleboarding is one of my favorite weekend activities.
Q: Do you like to spend your Sunday alone or with family/friends?
A: It really depends on the days leading up to it. Sometimes I feel like hanging out with good friends or my husband and doing something fun together, while other days all I want is to spend the day by myself. Although, if I’m by myself I typically end up doing or thinking about work anyway, so when I want to relax for a few hours, I’m usually surrounded by at least one other person.
Q: Do you use any apps or products for relaxation?
A: The Fitbit app meditation sessions and some Youtube videos are as far as I’ve come for relaxation on my own.
Q: What is your ideal bedtime?
A: 10:30 PM, but I rarely make it.
Q: What are some of your favorite Sunday activities?
A: Paddleboarding and long walks on the beach, ideally with my husband and the pups!
Q: How do you prepare for the week ahead?
A: In addition to trying to reset my mind, so I can start the next week fresh, I try to meal prep on weekends to save some cooking time during the week.
