Elana Jenkins of Funkiedo Apothecary is a creative visionary, entrepreneur, educator, and proud homeschool mom. She is committed to using her talents to empower and enrich the lives of people of color. Elana is also a proud graduate of Howard University with a degree in fashion merchandising and is currently piloting an innovative educational program through her fellowship with 4.0 Schools. Over the past 10 years, she has combined her lived experiences, with her love for art & beauty, and her background in education to create Funkiedo Apothecary. A boutique brand whose mission is to create products that are specially formulated to address the unique needs of melanated skin and textured hair.
She is also the organizer for the Natural Hair Influencer Group an online community dedicated to supporting women of color as they embrace their natural beauty. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality time with her children and her husband and catching up on much-needed sleep.
Q: What time do you wake up or does the alarm go off?
A: I usually wake up around 9 am which is considered sleeping in for me.
Q: What is your morning routine (specifically the first 15)
A: Lay in bed and snuggle with my hubby and 10-month-old daughter
Q: What is your Sunday mantra?
A: Relax, slow down, enjoy the day
Q: What’s your go to breakfast/brunch?
A: Eggs, turkey bacon, toast, fresh fruit, and coffee
Q: Do you give yourself any Sunday self-care treatments?
A: If I can squeeze them in...lol. Usually I have to spread my “me” time out throughout the week; 15-30 mins here and there. When the baby takes her evening nap is usually when I get to squeeze in my self-care time.
Q: What song is a good representation of your Sunday?
A: I can’t choose just one lol….Love & Happiness by Al Greene...it’s slow and soulful.
Q: How has your Sunday routine changed over the years?
A: Before I got married and had kids. I could spend hours indulging in self-care and shopping at Farmers Markets, reading books, brunching with friends. Now Sundays are spent hanging out with my kids and my hubby and catching up on chores and things that got neglected throughout the week.
Q: Do you exercise?
A: Not usually on Sunday.
Q: Do you like to spend your Sunday alone or with family/friends?
A: With friends and family
Q: Do you use any apps or products for relaxation?
A: My Itunes app, music is my way to relaxation.
Q: What is your ideal bedtime?
A: I would prefer to spend all day lounging around in my bed on a Sunday.
Q: What are some of your favorite Sunday activities?
A: Cooking a new recipe, reading a good book, journaling, talking or hanging out with my good friends, and having family time.
Q: How do you prepare for the week ahead?
A: Catch up on chores and lesson plan for the week ahead.
