NY LIVE - Minimalist Wardrobe to Streamline your Closet

As we transition into fall, it can be overwhelming to jump on the new trends. Lucky for us, the minimalist  wardrobe is trending right now. What does that even mean?

This type of dressing is all about simplicity. Think classic, streamlined silhouettes, a few neutral colors, and fewer pieces overall. Built around a neutral color palette (in easy shades like black, white, navy and camel), the fewer colors and prints you’re working with, the better to help structure your look!

We broke down 4 different looks with these 10 minimalist items at the NH Collection Hotel.

-White T-Shirt:

$5.99, hm.com/us

-V-neck or crew, slim fit or oversize, finding the right white tee can be tricky.

-Always worth the hunt because this casual staple hardly ever looks sloppy.

-Pairs just as well with your favorite jeans as it does with a fancier skirt.

Black Boyfriend Blazer:

24/7 Blazer, $138, suitably.com

-If you think blazers are limited to the boardroom, think again.

-These structured layering pieces are very versatile and can go from the office to date night actually pretty versatile.

-Black might read a touch more corporate, but in navy or white, a tailored blazer is the ideal topper to any look.

-A-Line Midi Skirt:

Elinie Pleated Midi Skirt, $42.90, lovebonito.com

-Flattering and sophisticated, this silhouette is one that’ll get lots of wear, especially in any neutral hue.

-Go barelegged in the spring and summer and with tights in the winter and fall.

-Now you’ve got a no-fail alternative to a dress that’s easy and always looks put together.

-Dark Wash Jeans:

High-Waisted Crop Jeans, $18, oldnavy.com

-I always tend to go for dark wash denim that will work with any top.

-Darker wash also is more slimming

-Can be paired with white T-shirt, white button down or sweater

-White Button-Down:

Oversized Dad Shirt, $39.90, cottonon.com

-A non-negotiable – every minimalist closet needs to have a slightly loose button-

-Relaxed, comfortable and super-chic

-Doesn’t need to be completely buttoned up and roll up the sleeves for a more relaxed option

-6/7. Cropped Black Trousers/White Black Pants:

Editor Bootcut Pants, $79.90, express.com

-These can take you from work to the weekend, but it all depends on how you style them.

-Also, keep fit in mind: You want them to be curve-skimming but not overly tight, and cropped just above the ankle.

-I love a straight-leg white trouser, because it’s a little dressier and more versatile.  -Very chic with striped crewneck sweater.

-Denim Jacket:

$89.95, ae.com

-Contrary to what you might think, a jean jacket is a year-round staple.

-Draped over your shoulders with a breezy summer dress or layered under heavier coats when it’s colder, it’s relaxed but also utilitarian.

-Little Black Dress:

$45, lulus.com

-A total workhorse, this should be a dress you can wear a bunch of different ways for many different occasions.

-On its own, the LBD is fairly plain and simple, so you can also get a lot of wear out of it without anyone  noticing.

-Crewneck Sweater:

$60, bananarepublicfactory.com

-Think of this as the cool-weather alternative to your plain white tee.

-Pair with jeans for an easy instant outfit or tuck it into that A-line skirt.

-It's perfect for layering because it does the trick in chilly offices and on deceptively breezy nights on the  town.

-Much easier it is to throw an outfit together without much thought or pre-planning.
